The National Institute for Health and Welfare in Finland has developed a MoveOn action model for coaching older people. This model is based on Movendos on-line coaching pilot in 2015, and it aims at increasing the holistic wellbeing of seniors. In the coaching pilot physiotherapists of Helsinki city coached a group of 65-80 years old individuals with different individual goals. The main target was to increase daily activity, but on the way, also other holistic aspects like the amount of sleep and mental balance were added in the coaching program. The individual results related to health and life quality were so good, that the model was brought further.
New solutions of health technology have helped to create new support and service models in social and health care. In Movendos on-line coaching the coach or the professional is giving support between the meetings for his customer. In the pilot project, the coach was available for the seniors even when they were spending time in their summer cottage if they wanted so. So, the location is not a hindering factor for getting qualitative support for life habit change or doing exercises right and regularly.
The new MoveOn model aims at supporting wellbeing, health, daily activity and capability to live at one’s own home as long as possible. One of the most important things is, that by on-line coaching the professionals help and motivate seniors to take more responsibility for their own wellbeing.
The MoveOn model has been developed in a “SenioriVerkko” (SeniorNetwork) project with several partners in Finland.
